Quite possibly the most famous painting in the world, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa has been the subject of song, literature and film. On August 21st, 1911, Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre, causing a global panic. She had been missing for two years when the thief, who stole Mona Lisa to return her to her native Florence, Italy, tried to ransom the painting to an antiques dealer.
